However, it is okay to be different because that does not mean they are less loved. I think to make the book a little more meaningful, the parents should have talked to their children how since their family is different than most, they are going to be judged. They only mention that she does not like them but does not have the parents reaction to it they just shrug it of. The only criticism I have of the story is the character of Mrs. The book is a little lengthy, so I would probably break the book up into several days. This story is a great way to introduce different types of families to your child. Children would be able to tell what is going on in the story by just looking at the illustrations. The rest of the illustrations are very detailed and add to the story. However, the book is based on Patricia’s life and her mothers may have looked similar to the characters in the story. I think that the critics have a valid point. They have short hair and unisex clothing. They say that the mothers are stereotypical because they portrayed as being very masculine. When researching this book, it seems that many people criticize the illustrations. It also portrays the changing perception of what makes a family a family and how to learn to rise above prejudice. All three of the children were adopted and of different ethnicity from each other. This book tells the story of three children growing up with two moms. Once their moms died Will, the brother, lived in the house so the family could still share the memories that were created growing up in the house. The three of them grew up watching their mothers love grow as they did. Once the children grew up, got married and had children of their own, they still returned to their mothers’ house for holidays. The parents would go out of their comfort zone to always make their children happy, like dressing up in dresses for the mother daughter tea, when they never wore dresses. Their whole life, their moms were very supportive of their children and accepted them for who they were. The story is narrated by Patricia and she is telling the story of how her siblings and she were adopted by their two moms.

In Our Mothers' House by Patricia Polacco

It’s no Game of Thrones, but there are similarities in style and tone that fans of that series might appreciate.īlack Bird is a thrilling crime drama with a top-notch cast that follows a young man, James (Taron Egerton), the son of a decorated police officer, who is sent to jail on drug trafficking and weapons charges. Momoa is predictable in his usual gruff and skilled warrior role, but there are other shining stars to watch, like the captivating Alfre Woodard. Thus begins the hunt for the children and their outlaw biological father, who also possesses the forbidden ability to see. The tribe’s leader, Baba Voss (Jason Mamoa), marries the woman, who gives birth to twins who are able to see. The story begins when a pregnant woman arrives at the camp of the Alkenny Tribe seeking a safe haven. Not only has the world become one where everyone has survived without the ability to see, but sight is now considered to be a curse, not a gift bestowed upon those who possess it. Set far in the future, the ability of sight has been lost by all survivors of a 21st-century virus that wiped out most of humanity. While critics have not been kind to this Jason Momoa-led sci-fi drama, viewers seem to be all for it. Is the silo really protecting people from dangerous conditions outside its doors, or is this all just an elaborate demonstration of smoke and mirrors? Silo touches on themes of power, control, perception, and manipulation. The story, based on the sci-fi books by Hugh Howey, centers around Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson, Dune), a young engineer who decides to investigate the truth when her boyfriend, who was looking into various theories, mysteriously falls to his death. Any sign sof the world before, called relics, are strictly prohibited. The protective community abides by strict rules and the same kind of corrupted politics and socioeconomic classes that existed in the outside world. But they are told it’s dangerous and deadly to step outside. No one knows why the silo was built or even by whom. Earth has supposedly become nothing more than a vast wasteland, and the only survivors reside in a massive silo built more than 100 floors high. Even though it’s yet another postapocalyptic, dystopian series, Silo draws you in with its unique and compelling story and A-list cast.
