Eventually we moved to bigger venues and now we’ve done it all around the country. There’s nothing like this happening.” So we ended up doing a whole year there. I just said, “Ok, let’s see if this works.” And after the first two months, the Duplex – where we originated the show said, “We’d love to have you back. And they said, “Sure, we think you are funny, that’s something we’d pay $15 for.” So I came up with this idea that we would do “The Meeting.” I pitched it to a few friends and asked if that was something they would buy a ticket to and if it would interest them at all. Seven years ago now I wanted a place where we could talk about politics and culture. I mean, it’s there.Ī lot of awesome people have been a part of this show. It’s a gay comedy variety show that I’ve been doing for a long long time. Your “Meeting” is a little different than most meetings that take place. Recently, we were able to spend some time the busy Sayre to discuss his final series of Meetings, what it’s like to have your words spoken on national television, and what it’s like to be catalogued next to George Carlin. You can listen to episodes on iTunes right here. Sparkle & Circulate with Justin Sayre, the official podcast of the International Order of Sodomites, features interviews with Randy Harrison, Alaska 5000, Nellie McKay, Justin Vivian Bond, R&B legend Sarah Dash, was named among “10 Comedy Podcasts You Should Listen To” by Backstage. He is also creator and host of the annual Night of a Thousand Judys concert to honor Judy Garland and benefit the Ali Forney Center, the largest aid organization for homeless LGBT youth. His first young adult novel, Husky, was published in 2015 with a sequel hitting shelves in 2017. He is perhaps best known for the video The New Hanky Code which you can watch right here. Sayre’s celebrated comedy variety show The Meeting just kicked off its eighth and final season. The show has been a sell-out for years based on its reputation for outrageous humor, trailblazing political discourse and button-pushing cultural exploration. On The Gay Agenda, Sayre presides as the Chairman of the International Order of Sodomites, the centuries-old organization that sets the actual Gay Agenda. Sayre’s debut comedy album The Gay Agenda – much of it selected from his longtime comedy show The Meeting at Joe’s Pub at New York’s Public Theater – has recently been released. He dissects issues of the LGBT community with what the New York Times calls his “deeply passionate soul and acerbic wit.” Well, he’s got a mission and he’s destined to complete it. He’s also appeared opposite Lisa Kudrow on HBO’s The Comeback. Justin Sayre is an audacious writer, comedian, performer, and is currently a staff writer on the CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls.

To all the Gospel Greats who have gone on: Jake Hess, J. A grateful nod of appreciation for paving the way for all of us goes to the Jordanaires, especially Gordon Stoker and Ray Walker. Hardin, Jerry Scheff, John Wilkinson, Joe Guercio, Myrna Smith, Estelle Brown, Sylvia Shemwell, Cissy Houston, Millie Kirkham, Armond Morales, Jim Murray, Terry Blackwood, Roger Wiles, Greg Gordon, Sherman Andrus, Ed Enoch, Ed Hill, Donnie Sumner, Bill Baize, Larry Strickland, Richard Sterban, Sherrill Nielson, Tim Beatty, and Tony Brown. I'd also like to acknowledge and say a special thank-you to the 'Original Cast' from the Vegas years: James Burton, Ronnie Tutt, Glen D. Jack Soden and my good buddy Gary Hovey have been so gracious to me and have always extended the sort of kind consideration that made me feel like an 'insider.' Todd Morgan, thanks for listening, for your help, and for your interest in this subject. I've also enjoyed a long friendship with Colonel and Mrs. I really haven't been around Lisa Marie in a long time, but I've watched her grow, and see so much of her dad in her she is so talented and giving. Thank you for our friendship all these years. I've enjoyed a close relationship with Priscilla, and consider her a great friend and a beautiful lady-someone I admire very much. Even though your names may not appear here, your support and passion have been felt throughout this process. I am deeply grateful for all the thoughts and prayers. It will be impossible for me to thank everyone for the parts they've played in making this book possible, all the musicians and singers through the years, and all the caring and sensitive individuals who knew this was an important 'side' to talk about, that this message needed to be heard.
